Hi! My name is Chris, and I make this comic - write it, 'film' it and build / maintain the website. I was born in 1987, in the south east of England (Where as of 2009 I still live) I went to university locally, gaining a BA Degree in Modelmaking and a lot of good, if crazy friends. I'm a big sci-fi geek, and a great lover of Joss Whedon... It's fair to say that Firefly had some impact on my ideas for this comic! I started an apprenticeship in website developing and design in 2009, and am presently learning my way through it...
Shepherds Flight is the story of the crew of the ITS Shepherd, a trading cargo ship in the far future. Humanity has reached the stars, and started to explore and colonise them, finding many alien races. Robots are fairly commonplace and sentient, each having to work for their creators for a set period to repay their construction debt before being freed. Most colonies are independant, and although conflicts still happen over trade disputes and borders, most of the colonised worlds manage to live peacefully together. The Sol system was the cradle of mankind, but now it has become the galactic equivalent of a town hall, with Earth acting as a storehouse for the colonial companies records and headquarters. As the comic starts, the galaxy has been at peace for well over 150 years, discounting minor interplanetary disputes...
The comic was born in early 2009, when I had my friend Ellen over for a night in. We somehow ended up playing with my lego, and I built the first version of the bridge set. I'd been thinking about starting a webcomic for a while, and this provided me with the stage to create my work on. Most of the main cast are based on friends of mine to certain degrees; from just sharing names to having similar personalities... The photos below are of the 'team' that aid me in the comic, helping me write it, design it and decide what will happen. From left to right, they are as follows: Me, Donna, Ellen, Gabriel and Paul.
